UPDATE ON MOM: 2/1/13 - "Tell them I said 'Thank you'"

The last 24 hrs have been awful.  Watching her suffer has been emotionally and physically draining.  I haven't had a full night's sleep since last Monday night.
I. AM. SPENT.

But, tonight, I also have HOPE.
Because they finally got her strong enough to remove the gall bladder, which was severely infected.  SO much that gangrene had started taking over.
The doctor said that there is still a chance that the infection might have spilled over into her blood stream, so she will stay in ICU until they feel she is out of danger of that.

But we have HOPE.
When I walked in to see her tonight, she had color back in her face.  She smiled when she saw me.  And then she weakly said:
"Where am I?"
"In a hospital Mama."
"Have I been sick?"
"Yes, You've been very sick."
"Really???"
"Yes, really."
"Well, I don't remember being sick."
"Trust me Mom, you were very, very sick."
Then there was a long pause, and she said,
"Am I going to have a big hospital bill? Cause I wanna go home if they are going to charge me very much to stay here."

She's BACK.  Growing up as a child of the depression era, the COST of everything was always forefront in her mind.  So that's when I knew, her mind was starting to get back to normal.  She's starting to respond and act like.... well.... her.  That part of her personality used to aggravate the fire outta me, but tonight, it was comforting to hear her question the cost.

Then, after I reassured her that she had good insurance that would pay for everything, I told her that she had a bunch of people praying for her today.  She looked shocked and said,
"Really??  Well.....who would wanna pray for ME?"

So, this is where YOU guys come into the picture.  I opened up my I-phone and started reading each and every message that you all sent today on Facebook and Twitter.  As I rattled off all the names of every single person who said they were praying for her today, I wish you all could have seen the look on her face.  She started off with a look of disbelief and it slowly changed as I kept reading all the words of comfort and support. She closed her eyes and listened sweetly, nodding with each name I read that she recognized and smiling at the names she didn't. It took awhile to read each one, but when I finished I saw a little tear roll down her cheek and she softly said to me.
"Tell them I said, 'Thank You'"

So, THANK YOU friends.  Thank you for caring about Mom.  Thank you for caring about Me.  Thank you for taking the time to reach out via phone calls, text messages, social media, and voicemails. Thank you for sharing your stories, your words of comfort and advice, and your prayers.
We will forever be grateful.

We aren't out of the woods yet, but I see a little light through the trees...

Love you all...... M
