Setting goals....

Do you set goals for yourself? -- Then do you see them through?  -- What do you do when you accomplish your goal?  ---Do you just set another one?  --- OR-- What do you do when you DON'T accomplish your goal? -- Do you feel like a failure?

I must admit that I have never been a big "goal setter".  I'm more of a day-to-day, "see what life has in store for me today", free-spirit kinda girl.  I'm a horrible procrastinator and I don't plan ahead well.  I literally get stressed-out when I see my calendar all filled up too far in advance because I feel I have no "wiggle room" to let life throw some curve balls in there.   But I digress... back to GOALS.

I was reading in my devotional book this morning and it was about goals and discipline, which got me to thinkin'....  SHOULD I be better at making goals, then being disciplined enough to carry them through??  Am I aiming too low with my life??  Just taking it day-to-day and seeing what God gives me to do each day?  I kinda like it that way.   But maybe I'm missing out on something...??   Hmmmmmm....

Some quotes from my devo this morning:
"Our goals come from our desire to change"

"Goals that inspire us to act bring meaning to our life"

"When we seek always to align our goals with God's will for us, then He will carry us to the fulfullment of our goals."

and then a quote from the great theologian Katherine Hepburn (ha) -- "Discipline is the basis of a satisfying life."

I have tried setting goals in the past, but then when I don't accomplish them, I feel very let down.  I think I've been guilty of setting goals that were WAY too high for me to reach, so I kind of set myself up to fail.  Maybe my problem has been in not evaluating myself and my gifts realistically, so I'm not setting the RIGHT goals for my life...??    Anyway, I just stopped all the "goal setting" stuff awhile back and I've enjoyed just taking life as it comes my way.  Trying to squeeze out as much life each day with whatever God puts in my path at the moment.   Seriously, I've enjoyed it that way for awhile now.  But the devo this morning got me thinking again that maybe, just maybe I'm missing out on a great feeling of accomplishment by NOT setting some goals for myself.

What about you guys?  Are you all "goal-setters"??  Does it work for you?  Am I missing out??

  1. I set one major goal. That someday, one day, in the very near future, I will review the fact that I'm kind of "fly by the seat of your pants" kind of guy, and I might need to set some goals.

Naw.. I won't do that. Then that's my goal. Not to set goals.

    Done.
